Meet Shona!
Shona is excited to be the Mom behind Columbus Moms Network. Get to know her here as she tells us why she’s so excited to bring you Columbus Moms Network, tells us more about her family, and shares the best piece of advice she ever got from another Mom and more!
How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
We have 1 daughter, Anna, and she is 9.
How long have you lived in Columbus and what brought you here?
We moved to the Columbus area in 2016 after my husband accepted a job as a Professor at Ohio State University. We both grew up in Canada and moved to the US in 2001 and we lived in Delaware and Texas before moving to Ohio. We love living in Ohio, and we plan to stay here forever!
What do you love about living in Columbus?
Columbus is a perfect fit for my family! I love all the fun things we have to do here as a family: great parks and playgrounds, a fantastic Zoo and Museums for the whole family, and I am so happy to live in a place where we have all 4 seasons! Fall in Ohio is my favorite season. After living in Texas for 11 years, I love the beautiful fall colors we have in Ohio! My husband and I both LOVE hockey so we are thrilled to be in a city with an NHL team too.
Why are you excited to bring us Columbus Moms Network?
Since we moved to Ohio in 2016, I have always been on the lookout for fun activities and things to do with my daughter. We have so much fun together going to fun events, trying new restaurants and businesses, and exploring all that Columbus has to offer. I think there are so many fun and unique things to do in Ohio, and I love sharing them with all of you. My hope is to give Moms (and Dads!) the gift of time by having all the information in one spot for you to find!
What is your favorite thing about being a Mom?
I can’t choose just one! But, I will say that my daughter is just so fun to spend time with. She’s always interested in a fun outing, or going and exploring a new park or playground. She loves travel and adventure just as much as we do, and we just genuinely enjoy spending time with her and as a family.
What is the best advice you ever got from another Mom?
I remember when my daughter was first born, one of my friends told me to “just focus on enjoying your time with your daughter”. I’ve tried to focus on that, especially in those first few really tiring and challenging months and years! I tried to focus on how much I enjoyed being her Mom and not think so much about how hard it really is! I tried to find the joy in all the moments with her, even the challenging ones.
In your spare time, what do you and your family enjoy doing together?
We love sports and watching the Blue Jackets and Buckeyes! We love to hike as a family and try to get to new parks regularly, we have so many good spots here in Central Ohio! My daughter and I love to read together and our family loves to travel and see new places-especially anywhere with mountains and hiking!
