2024 Solar Eclipse in Columbus | Columbus Moms Network

I am sure you know by now, but there will be a TOTAL solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th, and some of the Columbus area is in the path of totality which means total darkness in the middle of the afternoon!

There are many viewing events and parties happening on April 8th, but there are also MANY events happening prior to April 8th that will help you be informed and excited about eclipse day!

This list will be updated often as I find events, so please check back often. If I’m missing an event that you know about please feel free to email me at [email protected] to let me know.

Reminder: be sure you have proper eclipse glasses to view any part of the eclipse!

 

Eclipse Events Before the Solar Eclipse on April 8

2024 Solar Eclipse- A Presentation with Don Stevens of Ohio Wesleyan University

Tuesday, March 12: 6:30pm-7:30pm at Plain City Library

Take & Make: Solar Eclipse- Sun, Moon & Constellation Investigation

Friday, March 15: all day at Plain City Library

March’s Take & Make kits contain supplies to encourage hands-on learning about the upcoming solar eclipse and constellations that you may be able to view during the eclipse. Includes supplies for two projects: a DIY constellation projector and a sun and moon investigation experiment. Available for pickup at the library beginning Friday, March 15th while supplies last.

Teens Connect: The Eclipse, Space and Beyond with OSU Astronomy

Wednesday, March 20: 3:30pm-4:30pm at Main Library

Join the OSU Department of Astronomy to learn about the upcoming eclipse and space exploration and get a chance to try telescopes and other fun stargazing gadgets!

 

Eclipse Glasses Distribution

Thursday, March 21: 6:30pm-7pm at Upper Arlington Library

Excited for the eclipse? We’ll be distributing eclipse glasses to get you ready for the big day. The supply is limited and we can share 2 pairs per household while supplies last.

Eclipse Storytime

Saturday, March 23: 11am-11:30am at Main Library

Nothing can eclipse this amazing Storytime as we prepare for the upcoming solar eclipse this year! Come join us for books, songs and other stories that are out of this world.

Visit with Columbus Astronomy

Saturday, March 24: 4pm-5:30pm at Westerville Library

Learn about space and the stars with the Columbus Astronomical Society. Get hands-on time with telescopes while learning about the upcoming solar eclipse. By attending this event, you’ll earn your own pair of eclipse glasses for safe viewing. One per family. While supplies last. Learn more about the solar eclipse.

At this school-age program, you will learn about why a solar eclipse occurs and make your own pinhole eclipse viewer. Don’t miss out – the next total solar eclipse in Ohio won’t be until 2099!

 

Liberty Solar Eclipse Explorers

Thursday, March 28: 5pm-6:30pm at Liberty Branch Library

At this school-age program, you will learn about why a solar eclipse occurs and make your own pinhole eclipse viewer. Don’t miss out – the next total solar eclipse in Ohio won’t be until 2099!

Eclipse Kids Create

Saturday, March 30: 2pm-3pm at Northern Lights Library

Get ready for the total solar eclipse! Expand your creativity and hang out with friends during this weekly program just for tweens. We’ll create art, learn about the eclipse and more.

Drop-In Solar Eclipse Celebration

Saturday, March 30: 2pm-4pm

Visit stations to learn about the solar eclipse that’s happening on Monday, April 8. After completing all activities, you’ll earn your own pair of eclipse glasses for safe viewing. One per family. While supplies last. For ages 0-7, parents or caregivers (age 18+) must remain in the room to supervise for the duration of the event.

Monday, April 1: 1am-12pm at Orange Branch Library

Join us for an eclipse-themed party for toddlers and preschoolers! Together, we’ll read a book, dance, and make a craft.

Solar Eclipse Viewing Party on the Farm

Monday, April 8: 11am-7pm at Henmick Farm & Brewery

Experience the totality of a solar eclipse at Henmick! Craft beer, craft cocktails & local food trucks. Open to the public and all ages welcome.
Guests are required to bring their own viewing glasses.

Eclipse Craft

Monday April 8: all day at Tremont Road Library

Come celebrate the total solar eclipse at the library! Supplies will be provided for a fun craft to help kids understand how the eclipse works.

Eclipse Watch Party in Grandview Heights

It is important to secure your eclipse glasses ahead of time so you can watch it all unfold! The City, Grandview Heights Schools, and Grandview Heights Public Library are partnering as we prepare for this once-in-a-lifetime event. Join the watch party at Wyman Woods beginning at 2:00 pm. There will be a food truck, cotton candy, and educational activities leading up to the eclipse.

Daffodils in the Dark: Eclipse Watch Party

Monday, April 8: 1pm-5pm at Mitchell’s Berries & Blooms

Don’t miss your chance to watch totality at the farm! Farm will open at 1pm. 20$/car The show begins around 2pm with the main event around 3. First 100 people will get free glasses. (4 free max per car) Enjoy lawn games and music. Daffodil picking if blooming. Drinks and snacks available for purchase. Bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets. Chilly temps, we’ll be sure to light the fire and warm drinks.Hoping Ohio weather will cooperate!

Come stare at the sun with us as the planets align for this once in a lifetime event, The Total Eclipse of The Moth. We’ll be opening the taproom early so that you and your family can claim your seat to watch this year’s solar eclipse. This event is FREE and open to the public. Engage in interactive experiments with the COSI team, groove to cosmic-themed music, and satisfy your taste buds with a variety of offerings from local food trucks. All ages are welcome to partake in this stellar event. Our doors open at 11am, and the event takes place from 12-6pm.

Monday, April 8: 2pm-4pm at Local Roots Beer Garden
Mark your calendars for this once in a lifetime event! Lucky for us all, Columbus is expected to experience 95% totality. We are so excited to have the opportunity to experience such a magnificent event! All ages welcome – more details to come.

Monday, April 8: 10am-5pm at Alum Creek Lake Dam
Experience one of the most spectacular events of 2024, the Solar Eclipse, at Alum Creek Dam! Join the USACE Park Rangers of Alum Creek with their friends at SACCA, Dell & Intel for a day of fun and amazement!
USACE, SACCA, Dell and Intel will have information booths and activities for the entire family to enjoy, while food trucks from Bytchn Kitchen, Shega Grill and Kona Ice, provide some tasty food!
The partial eclipse will begin at 1:59 PM, the totality will last from 3:13 PM to 3:17 PM, with the following partial to end at 4:29 PM.
PLEASE pack your patience when planning your trip to Alum Creek (or wherever you decide to view it), expect increased traffic levels and wait times when searching for safe parking. Please only park in designated parking zones and follow all directions given by local law enforcement and park staff.

Monday, April 8: 10am-5pm at National Veterans Memorial and Museum
Witness the awe-inspiring Great North American Eclipse from the rooftop of the NVMM! In partnership with the NASA Solar System Ambassadors program, we will have hands-on learning activities throughout the Museum between the hours of 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Activities include:
*Guess the distance of the earth to the moon and the sun
*Design a military and NASA patch
*Draw your own perspective of the sky, inspired by our latest special exhibition, Lost Man Blues: Jon Schueler – Art and War
*Fun giveaways from the NASA Solar System Ambassador Program
Admission is free for NVMM members, $5 for students, Ohio History Connection and COSI members, and $10 for general public who wants to marvel at this celestial phenomenon.
Special eclipse glasses are available on a first come first serve basis.

Join us for a KidX Total Solar Eclipse Watch Party at Dave & Buster’s Polaris location! This is a FREE event!

• The first 500 people get a FREE pair of total solar eclipse glasses, courtesy of Destination Delaware and Polaris Fashion Place!
• All kids get a FREE Dave & Buster’s power card with unlimited video game play!
• Total Solar Eclipse scheduled to occur at 3:10PM (we’ll pop outside to watch this happen with our special glasses)

 

Solar Eclipse Experience at Bevelhymer Park

Monday, April 8: 1pm-5pm

Join us in viewing the eclipse from Bevelhymer Park from 1pm-5pm on April 8th! There will be food trucks, science based activities for kids as well as FREE eclipse glasses to the first 2,000 attendees! We encourage guests to come early and stay late so bring your own blankets or chairs and stay a while.

Total Eclipse in the Park

Monday, April 8: 1pm-3:30pm at Hilliard’s Station Park

Hilliard will be in the direct path of a total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8. Watch the once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon while attending a special event in Downtown Hilliard.
This free event will include: Solar eclipse glasses while supplies last, a deejay, sun catcher craft, solar eclipse trivia, snacks that include Moon Pies, Starbursts and Mars Bars, photos with an astronaut, mirror dancer and more!
